When
- A Romano-Celtic temple built in the 4thcentury.
- Fell out of use around AD 379-395.
- Archaeologists discovered a shaft 13 feet deep which contained 16 layers of ash and charcoal alternated with roof slabs and the bones of a bird and a small coin. At the bottom was a stone cist with two urns, a sword and a spearhead. This was a common feature of prehistoric Celtic religious sites according to English Heritage.
What Remains
- Little remains except the outline of the stone foundation walls.
- Excellent view of Weymouth Bay and the Osmington White Horse.
