Pike Hill Signal Tower

- Before the wall there were watchtowers to signal to other towers and forts along the Stanegate, and Pike Hill was one of those early towers. It was incorporated into the wall, although it fit into the wall as more of a diamond shape than the regular square turret.

Hare Hill Wall Section

What Remains
- Hare Hill is the westernmost remains of Hadrian’s Wall and is a short length of wall standing 2.7 metres/8.8 feet high.
- It was rebuilt in the 19th century.
- One of its stones bears the inscription PP indicating that this section was built by the chief centurion, Primus Pilus.
